ORDERING TIPS
If an item is in your cart, someone can check out and purchase this tuber before you. Having an item in your cart DOES NOT reserve it. If an item sells out before you check out, even if it is in your cart, you will not be able to purchase this item. Dahlia Mania is real… prepare accordingly. Tips: If you are paying by PayPal, have your account set up and logged in before you order for fastest checkout. If you are paying via credit card, have your device setup for autofill. Option: If you have your heart set on a specific variety, purchase that immediately and then go back to order others; even if this means paying shipping twice.

“I learned this key advice at dahlia society meetings: Support, Identification, About 4" deep, Don't water at planting, Patience, Remove slugs. Most of all, ENJOY!” - Julie
It’s not hard to see why dahlias are one of the most widely grown and well-loved cut flower. Warning... they can be addicting!
Don't be in a hurry to plant your dahlias. Wait until all danger of frost is past before planting. They should not be planted until ground temperature is between 55 and 60 degrees. Hold off planting if the forecast is predicting a wet stretch and don't water until sprouts appear from the soil. Newly planted tubers are prone to rot.
Dahlias thrive in rich well drained soil. Use slug and snail bait at planting, don't wait until the sprout appears. Those buggers can ruin your newly planted sprouts overnight. They usually will survive but will have to wait longer for your blooms. Dahlias also thrive in full sun and should be planted in a location that receives a minimum of 6-8 hours of sun.
Dahlias will grow quite large and require additional support. I insert a stake at planting time before I fill in dirt so I don't damage the tuber later. I tie them to the stake as they grow. I also like to cut the bottom of a milk jug off and put the top hole through the stake so it won't move. You now have a little greenhouse. It helps keep the water off if it rains and acts as a heating element. I remove when the sprout is 3-4" high.
